The Organisation for Justice and Accountability in the Horn of Africa
About Us
Organization
The Organization for Justice and Accountability in the Horn of Africa (OJAH) is an independent, African-led civil society organization promoting justice and accountability in the Greater Horn of Africa region, including Ethiopia, Eritrea, and Sudan. OJAH works in collaboration with justice actors to support investigations and prosecutions.
Mission
OJAH's mission is to address impunity for atrocity crimes and serious violations of international human rights law across the Greater Horn of Africa region. This is pursued through advancing the environment for justice and accountability, conducting documentation and investigations, preserving and analyzing evidence, and supporting international justice actors in investigating and prosecuting perpetrators of these crimes.
Partnerships
Through mentorship, partnerships, and capacity building support from established organizations in the field, the OJAH team is developing competencies that meet international best practices including trauma-sensitive and victim-centered methodologies to maximize impact.
Establishment
OJAH began its work as an informal grassroots network of human rights activists documenting atrocity crimes on the ground at the onset of the Ethiopian war in late 2020. Over the course of three years, this network was formalized and OJAH was incorporated as a non-profit organization in Washington, DC, in 2023.
